For the love of nature

Let us introduce you to the background of the development of the game Forestry, created by our Michal Peichl

Let us introduce you to the background of the development of the game Forestry, created by our Michal Peichl. We released the game in 2025, and it is now heading to stores in more than ten countries around the world, with more locations being added to the map. Forestry was actually the game that led to the creation of the entire Pink Troubadour publishing house. We all enjoy spending our free time in nature, especially in the forest. For Michal, his wanderings through the forest became the inspiration for a game in which you, as the player, have to take care of the forest. Even though there are plenty of games about forests, Michal decided to approach it differently. He wanted to show the forest realistically. Not just as a place where cute animals live or as a fantasy world full of elves and fairies. But the forest as it really is. A place where we can go mushroom and blueberry picking, but where trees are also cut down to make lots of useful things that we use every day and couldn't imagine life without. The magic of the forest lies not only in the birds singing and the scent of resin, but also in the occasional sound of a chainsaw. That's what the game Forestry is all about. It's about the forest as a living organism that needs to be cared for if we want to use it. Even though Michal is a man of every conceivable and inconceivable talent, sometimes needs help with something, especially when he's striving for the perfect game. In this case, he was assisted by experts from the Faculty of Forestry at the Czech University of Life Sciences (ČZU) in Prague, with whom Michal regularly consulted on game mechanics to ensure that they made sense not only in terms of gameplay but also thematically. Thanks to this, in Forestry you can now do the things that foresters do in their everyday lives. In addition to felling trees, this naturally includes planting, building roads and rest areas for tourists, pruning, and marking hollow trees. Thanks to the people at ČZU, the rules provide a wealth of information about forest management as it is currently practiced in the Czech Republic. Over the past thirty years, forest management has changed beyond recognition. Monocultural spruce plantations are gradually being transformed into mixed forest management, where sustainability and the preservation of forest biomes for future generations are taken into account. Because the trees you plant today may be embraced by your children and grandchildren. Forestry is a game that aims to show you the real world of forest management, but it is still just a game, which of course cannot cover everything that happens in the forest. But if playing it motivates you to take a walk in the woods or think about where the table you're playing at right now might have grown, that's one of the reasons why Forestry was created.
